The following computer networking article provide us all the information related to Metropolitan Area Network and LAN WAN. Along with their features and examples of each are included in this article. What is Metropolitan Area Network, Local area network- LAN and Wide area network- WAN are described below.

Metropolitan Area Network, LAN, WAN:

Introduction of Network:

When we connect two or more computers together  and made a structure is called a computer network.

We can exchange the in the network.

It is convenient to use different programs or hardware combinations depending on the speed of the computer in the network.

One server is created in the network. Other PCs are connected to it. In short, it means sharing services and information from hardware parts.

Computer networks have many benefits:

1) Sharing of data: –

Information of more than one computer can be shared, this makes it possible to view or view information from a departmental computer in the office just like a computer on a lab floor, saving time and effort.

2) Sharing of Device: –

A device can be shared on more than one computer.

Example: printer, scanner can be shared in office purpose.

3) Communication: –

It is possible to exchange different messages with many computers at the same time.

Example: From server any massage can be shared to workstation to

How network works:

In today’s world every office has at least 1 server and It is a proxy server to access the internet which is given an IP address. When that IP address is entered, the Internet starts in the PC in which the IP address is entered. Uniform Resource Locator (URL) can be given in this through which internet access is done. Data access has become easier because of the network, it has many problems. One is virus problem.

A virus is an .exe file, sometimes virus can not loss the data due to this file, but the virus deletes the system files of our computer, which causes problems to the computer. In network data is not safe, anyone can see this data. But, if we remove the sharing is removed then no one can access the data. It was very necessary to give a password to the network. Because if the network remains open, anyone can access it and it can be used remotely. Otherwise the network can be hacked. Nowadays, hackers and attackers take advantage of this to hack other people’s networks and send emails.

Where there is a wireless network, there is no need for cables. The PC can be connected to the network wirelessly by setting it up.

Now a days, the biggest advantage of the network is that it is possible to print from a PC connected to the network in a single printer or scanner in the office. This saves the cost of the printer or scanner and also saves space. Connection can be done by connecting a router, hub, switch, satellite or modem. Networking is done through CAT 5 cable, optic fiber cable.

Types of Computer Network:

Networks are classified as below:

Types of network

1) Local Area Network (LAN) :-

When the computers from  same building or department are connected to each other, it makes a local area network.

In this network, computers are connected to each other by a single type of cable.

The number of computers connected to a network is low.

This network is cheaper than other types of network.

LAN requires LAN card and cable.

LAN is used for shorter distances of 10 km.

2) Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) :-

This network is larger than LAN.

A metropolitan area network connects a complete city to a city.

Different cables are used in this network.

Use of MAN makes possible for a mobile company to operate in different areas of a city.

Example: A telephone or radio network.

3)  Wide Area Network (WAN) :-

In this network, two city networks are connected to each other.

So this network makes its area wide, so termed as Wide Area Network.

In this network, telephone lines or satellites are connected through satellites.
